F a e r n ‘You will find tiny nothingness inside a seed’ series of 7 Mixed Media on paper 3 1/2 ” x 5 1/2 “
This is the first series that FELT “right” since I re-imagined my relationship with Art. I made them small due to the “precious to me” quality they hold.
They’re about seeds, another very precious commodity. “Seeds” come up a lot in my work now, but here in this series is where it took hold.
Threading them in. Seeds are very precious to hold.
They are carrying an entire universe inside their little husks. However, if you search for the universe inside the seed, carefully unwrapping and removing each layer, you will find tiny nothingness.
Applying thread as a drawing tool is an important aspect of these pieces. This brings me very close to the work, peering into little holes sewing slowly with my grandmother’s threads.
